Thousands of trends come and go, but it’s the classic styles that we see repeatedly coming back around come fashion month that are worth investing in. From Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking Jacket to Louis Vuitton’s iconic logo print, archival pieces get reimagined or reworked season in, season out, producing the classics that will stand the test of time and never go out of fashion. As we continue to embrace sustainability, we’re launching our exclusive one-of-a-kind vintage collection. From Chanel to Cartier and Louis Vuitton, we have curated an assortment of items that have lived and breathed luxury going as far back as the twenties — now making Ounass the next phase of their life.

Our vision is to create the crème-de-la-crème of vintage, so we’ve taken our affinity for everything refined and teamed up with vintage fashion curation house 1954 by Rae Joseph to bring you the very best vintage treasures and collector-worthy pieces right to your door. With a real passion for vintage, Rae explains her journey to Ounass and how she became quite the connoisseur when it comes to sourcing some of the most coveted, historic designer labels that we are now so lucky to be able to get our hands-on.

“I can dedicate the birth of 1954 to my undying love for vintage collecting. Being an avid decade-spanning vintage collector gave me deep roots in the vintage world, whether in Europe, the US or Asia. Through this exposure, I was able to distinguish the best of the best around the world and identify the showrooms, curators and or cities that excel in each product category.”

Since the launch in 2017, Rae has made vintage an indulgence that’s just a click away – with a focus on the Middle East. Her guidelines are not ones that compromises quality, travelling across the globe to find pieces with a refined form, a credible background and a history that carries them to the top of our wish list. She tells us, “when I decided to establish 1954, I was determined to choose the best amongst those to source the collection, which meant sourcing Cartier from Paris, Fendi from Florence, Gucci from Asia and so on. Quality is uncompromisable for us and the showrooms we work with are some of the most trusted in the industry.” Rae’s guidelines merged with Ounass’ refined take on the best of luxury create a collection consisting of the best vintage pieces money can buy. Vintage stands out in its exclusivity — a piece from the ‘60s will naturally be difficult to acquire, and in a society where rarity is key, it ultimately lets our individuality speak through style. This is one of the main reasons Rae tells us that women in the Middle East should look to investing in vintage. “Vintage pieces are often one-of-a-kind and made in designs that are no longer manufactured,” she explains — “having a unique piece like this in your wardrobe instantly elevates any woman’s style game.” She is not wrong there, as a nation we crave and desire exclusive highly sought out items to keep our elevated style in tack.

From a Grace Kelly 1950s hand-painted taffeta gown to an antique diamond and ruby engagement ring dating back to 1911, these are just a few of the most memorable hard-to-find items Rae has found over the years, making her fall even more in love with her trade. In an insight from the expert, Rae tells us, “purchasing a vintage piece tells you a lot about the social, economic and political climate it was made in. The choice of colour, design, fabric and manufacturing technique makes vintage pieces little pieces of history, and to many, pieces of art.” Quality is key when it comes to sourcing the right vintage pieces, and with a little help from Rae, we’ve searched far and wide to curate a collection of authentic luxurious pieces with a refined vintage journey. Rae said it best when she mentioned that “vintage pieces were made before mass production was popular, they are often made with better quality, whether with respect to the materials or craftsmanship.”

One of our favourite parts of vintage is its environmentally friendly character — buying a vintage piece means that you’re recycling, it tackles the throw-away culture by allowing these pieces to have a new lease of life. It decreases the fast-fashion and production waste of our industry and gives rise to uniqueness and exclusivity. Rae points out the balance between vintage and immeasurable quality when it comes to luxury: “buying vintage allows us to give a beautiful piece a new life cycle, and the best part is, you do not have to compromise quality or style.” Whether it’s in pristine condition or proudly displays its distinctive story, discover the very best treasures and collector-worthy pieces on Ounass.
